Organic Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc is a major red grape that grows worldwide, found in our wines from France and South America. Its origins are said to be in the Basque country of France. Its deep purple color and sweet aromas of dark berries and violet petals lead to flavors that are smooth and complex, with fine tannin. The variety’s characteristics include savory, roasted bell pepper, strawberry and plum flavors, with medium-high acidity and mouthwatering taste. It makes an excellent blending grape with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style, but is also vinified alone.
Cabernet Franc is an offspring of Cabernet Sauvignon and Savignon Blanc, the crossing ocuring sometime during the middle 1600s in the Bordeaux region. Its red fruit and herbaceous nature make it complementary as a blending grape with Cabernet Sauvignon. It is most famously known as the third blending partner with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeaux blends.
