Introducing Koyle Family Vineyards Demeter Certified Biodynamic Wines from Chile
From the Colchagua Valley comes our new line of Biodynamic Wines from Chile. 6th generation winemaker Cristobal Undurraga carries the heart of family tradition that dates back to 1885. Koyle Family Vineyards is dedicated to the production of wines with their own identity. Using tools such as a Biodynamic management of the vineyards, Koyle (KOY-LAY) aims to reflect the excellence of the vineyard’s terroir in their premium wines.
Cristobal graduated as an agricultural engineer and winemaker in 2000. He gathered experience abroad in estates throughout California and France, including the famed Chateau Margaux in Bordeaux.
Koyle is focused on producing high quality wines and extracting the very best of their Los Lingues vineyard terroir, in the Andes of Colchagua. Each plot offers a different elevation and soil type – micro-terroirs – producing several lines of wines with their own unique character. The winery has been certified organic and Biodynamic since 2012, and the winery proudly uses 100% estate grown grapes. The grapes are hand-harvested and all wines are “wild fermented” without the addition of yeast during production. The resulting Chilean Biodynamic wines are the best expression the country has to offer.
“We search to be in harmony with nature and to use sustainable methods for the process of cultivation, production and maintenance of the vineyards.” Cristobal Underraga
Koyle places their greatest effort on the expression and understanding of the vineyard. It is based on 3 pillars: man, place and environment. It is through a Biodynamic approach that they have found the best way to get intimately close to the expression of nature.
The winery utilizes concrete eggs for aging and solar energy. These areas of innovation and eco-consciousness set apart Koyle from their competitors. The name Koyle is derived from a beautiful purple flower of the same name, found growing wild in the vineyards. It signifies for Koyle “A job well done, the process of perfection, of life, beauty and surprise.”
