(March 8, 2017) In celebration of International Women’s Day, we are honoring one of our outstanding women winemakers, Angela Michlits. Angela is the primary winemaker for Biokult organic wine from Pamhagen, Austria. Growing up, Angela’s parents had always possessed a passion for wines. While there was no family wine estate or winery connection, she always shared their passion.
During her summers while attending college, Angela conducted winery internships. She was so enthusiastic about winemaking that she abdicated her formal studies in favor of an additional official winery apprenticeship opportunity, only to later return to her enological university studies. That’s where Angela met her future husband Werner Michlits.Together they decided to continue transforming Werner’s family estate.
From the beginning Angela was in charge of all the winemaking and vinification processes. While their three children are at school Angela spends her day in the cellar with her colleagues. She understands the use of traditional wine growing and winemaking techniques and has developed them in modern ways. Her and her husband’s search for establishing the best conditions and thus letting nature do its best work for the wines without excessive human intervention is very innovative and contemporary. The family has become a world-renowned producer of high quality organic wines from vines grown with care using organic principles, and their products and production methods are revolutionary for the region.
