Settimo Pizzolato with 6th generation winemakers daughter Stefany and son Frederik, along with their namesake wines.
We are delighted to introduce three new Italian organic wines from our Veneto, Italy partner, La Cantina Pizzolato. Each is unique in style and flavor, embodying the Veneto region at its finest. Over the past couple of decades, Raboso has become increasingly popular and has been successfully produced in the vineyards of the region. It has become a flagship grape for eastern Veneto, with Manzoni Bianco as its white wine counterpart.
Pizzolato Raboso – is made with the red wine grape grown in the Veneto region of northern Italy – mostly in the low-lying coastal regions around Piave river. These wines tend to have both high levels of tannin and acidity, but careful harvesting and winemaking techniques yield a balanced, fresh red wine. Powerful and typically acidic, full-bodied with a great flavor. Its aroma leans to berries, blackberry, plum jam with spicy notes of licorice, pepper and tobacco.
Pizzolato Manzoni Bianco – grape was created by crossing Riesling and Pinot Blanc varieties in 1930 by Professor Luigi Manzoni. Manzoni has characteristically small fruit with thick skin that allows a late maturation on the plant. It is a very aromatic grape and highly disease-resistant. It adapts well to various soils and climates and is a great expression of the region. It has an intense straw-yellow color and its taste is warm and elegant. It has aromatic and mineral notes and its aroma reminds of acacia flowers.
A Fine Example of Outstanding Italian Organic Wines – Il Barbarossa
Il Barbarossa Malanotte DOCG – The name translates to “The Red Beard” and pays homage to both winemaker Settimo Pizzolato’s father and son who have both sported a red beard. A true tribute to the 4th, 5th and now 6th generations of Pizzolato winemakers. This wine is the highest expression of the Raboso Piave grape and its terroir. Classic red vinification for 70% of grapes, while 30% of grapes are “passito-style” made to dry on wooden cases for about 90 days. The wine is aged three full years, spending one year in oak casks and 8 months in barrique before finishing the aging in bottle before release. The intense ruby red color reflects the passion that both Settimo and has staff have for the production of organic and this very special local wine. 88 points Decanter World Wine Awards. Selected for inclusion in the exclusive “5StarWines The Book 2017” at Vinitaly.
As with all of our Pizzolato wines, these new additions are Made with 100% organically grown grapes, are certified vegan and Non-GMO Project Verified.
