From beautiful Tuscany comes the purest expression of the region ever found in a glass of vino: Chianti Naturale. Our winery partner Fattoria Romignano produces No Sulfites Added Organic Chianti Naturale, proudly designated as DOCG Chianti, indicting that the wine producers followed strict regulations set forth by the region to make the wine. The wine was tested by the DOCG committee to guarantee the wine’s geographic authenticity and that it meets high quality standards. This designation is difficult to obtain, especially for a wine that is produced with 100% organically grown grapes.
Members of the Rossi family have been winemakers since the early part of 1900s when they purchased Fattoria di Romignano. Current winemaker Ricardo Rossi decided to turn a mixed agricultural land into dedicated vineyard, replacing the confused mixture of vines, olive trees, wheat and beans. The entire growing process, from pruning to bottling is done at the farm and followed by an Agronomist and Oenologist.
This organic Chianti is a classic blend of Italian Sangiovese, Canoiolo and Merlot. The wine is vegan-friendly, using no animal byproducts in production. The wine is also Non-GMO Project Verified. The rocky, clay and sand mixed soil of Chianti is perfect for the grapes, producing the highest quality grapes that are demanded for organic production. The climate is dry and sunny with cold nights and warm days during the harvest. As a result, there is a good accumulation of sugar and tannic components on the grapes, making for a full and flavor-rich Chianti Naturale.
Care must be taken at every step in production. Grapes are harvested by hand and sorted to ensure that only pristine grapes are used in production. The grape must remains with the skins for two weeks. After that, in order to extract more tannins, the solid part is separated from the liquid. The wine is elaborated and stored in steel tanks to prevent any oxygen entering. Oxygen is the enemy of organic wine production and must be kept at bay in wines that have no sulfites added. The wine is bottled without barrel aging.
The resulting wine is ruby red in color, with aromas of red fruits, hints of spice and cigar box. Succulent red cherry flavor that is slightly sweet, in a harmonic and well balanced Italian Chianti. This is a great everyday wine, and perfect with first courses, meats and cheeses.
