Granza New Look, New Eco-Friendly Organic Wine Labels
The most recent vintages in the Granza organic wine range show off new eco-friendly organic wine labels made with organic paper produced using grape residue. Granza is the first Spanish agri-food brand to use this type of label. The use of “Grape Touch,” the paper the organic wine labels are made of, corresponds to the philosophy with which this brand was born. Its range includes three organic wines produced in Spanish denominations of origin of reference: Granza Verdejo Rueda, Granza Tempranillo Ribera del Duero and Granza Tinta de Toro.
The organic wine labels’ paper is made from grape residue, to replace 15% of the virgin tree pulp. The residue is used as a raw natural material to make the labels, giving them a very distinctive texture and appearance.
More specifically, the raw materials used are grape sub-products. These are essentially grape pomace, so the skin, pulp and seeds of the grapes, that are extracted during the winemaking and distillation process. These are normally processed as fillers in animal feeds, fertilizers or waste products. The sub-product material used is processed by the American company Avery Dennison.
Grape Touch is the new grape paper that has been added to the existing range made of food products such as corn, kiwi, almond, coffee, lavender, cherry, etc. These are developed via a patented production process and the final products are also patented.
The adhesive is highly effective and complies with European food product standards. It can be used in direct contact with dry and wet, non-greasy products.
“In a country like Spain, with more than 4,000 wineries, we have been the first to use a label made from the composting of the grape residue. This is indicative of many things: our innovative spirit, our firm commitment to sustainability and something I call the spherical economy,” said Carlos Moro, President of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera.
Granza Organic Wines
The Granza organic wines are characterized, and made different, by being more natural wines that better respect the varietal aromas and the flavors of the land. All the processes in both the vineyards and the winery correspond to organic production methods. This limits the application of plant protection products, systemic preventative products or synthetic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Only natural products that are authorized for organic production are used.
The Cyan winery in the Toro Denomination of Origin, the Renacimiento winery in Ribera del Duero and the Emina Rueda winery, registered in the Organic Agriculture Scheme, allow Bodegas Familiares Matarromera to produce this type of wines. They respond to a new market demand, from a type of wine consumer more concerned with respecting the environment, with sustainability and, increasingly, with consuming healthier products.
Matarromera Environmental Sustainability
Since its birth, Matarromera has supported the land and sustainability. The company has been constructing eco-efficient facilities, using clean and renewable energies, researching projects that allow it to improve related viticulture activities and manufacturing products that are increasingly natural and environmentally friendly.
The winery group is also working towards sustainability regarding its use of packaging for special wine deliveries. The expanded polystyrene casing has been replaced with recycled and recyclable cardboard boxes, as these are more environmentally friendly.
