We are very pleased to feature an award recently received by our outstanding women winemakers in the 2020 International Women’s Wine Competition. The International Women’s Wine Competition, judged entirely by wine industry professional women. Its mission? To uniquely identify specific wines that women will enjoy and ultimately purchase.
2020 International Women’s Wine Competition – Biokult Zweigelt Rosé Double Gold, Best of Class and 96 Points
2019 Biokult Zweigelt Rosé received a prestigious Double Gold, Best of Class Award with 96 Points. Angela Michlits is one of our outstanding women winemakers, and the primary winemaker for Biokult wine from Pamhagen, Austria. Angela and her husband Werner take responsibility for vinification: “Organic wines represent the most authentic origin. 2020 International Women’s Wine Competition – Les Hauts de Lagarde Bordeaux Blanc and Rouge 90 Points
2019 Les Hauts de Lagarde Bordeaux Blanc received a Gold Medal and Best of Class with 90 points and the 2019 Les Hauts de Lagarde Bordeaux Rouge received a Gold Medal with 90 points. These wines are elaborated by one of the most talented women winemakers, Cellar Master Elodie Gilles, formerly with the famed Champagne house Veuve Clicquot. Les Hauts de Lagarde Bordeaux Blanc
60% Organic Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Organic Sémillon

The red counterpart, Les Hauts de Lagarde Bordeaux Rouge is composed of 65% Organic Merlot, 25% Organic Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Organic Cabernet Franc.
“Dark garnet color. Smoky aromas and flavors of charred nuts, roasted berries, and clay with a satiny, crisp, dryish medium body and a medium-long nuts, craisins and cassis, and earth finish with woody, tannins. 2020 International Women’s Wine Competition – Granza Tinta de Toro 91 Points
2016 Granza Tinta de Toro received a Gold Medal and 91 Points. Veronica Pareja, Winemaker and Cellar Chief for Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, helped to develop the award-winning wine from the Toro region of Spain. Veronica previously worked both at the University of Córdoba and the Denomination of Origin Montilla-Moriles. Tinta de Toro is a Tempranillo clone, with smaller berries and thicker skins. The result is a bold wine with structured tannins.
“This has an assertive, brash core of fleshy dark berries and plums. The palate has punchy, convincing blackberry flavor. Dense, fleshy and really delicious.” James Suckling (93 points 2016). This wine is Vegan.
