![]() Domaine Gioulis SA is situated in the province of Corinth, close to the valley of Nemea on the Peloponnese peninsula. The brothers George and Konstantinos Gioulis together with the second generation Dimitris and Ermioni take care of the only Greek winery that holds the only NOP certification in Greece. Since the late 90s Gioulis has been able to achieve the Greek organic DIO certification. Their dedication to preserve the Greek heritage in winegrowing is obvious. Not only do they grow different autochthonous varieties like the Agioritiko or the Roditis but they also pair these with French varieties e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to achieve the most complex flavour for their product. Their first 4 ha of vineyards were planted in 1990. One of the very rare and impressive things to know about Dom.Gioulis is that their vineyards are located at about 750 m altitude thus giving the wines a minerality and length that is rare for hot-climate wines. Even very hot and dry years do not affect the quality of the wines. The location close to the valley of Nemea has another speciality: the southern Mediterranean microclimate balanced by the mountain breeze from the Ziria mountains. The processing of the grapes, the wine - making and the ageing are performed on – site under special climatic conditions (fermentation - aging at 18 °C). The wines have won several awards and high acclaims from Food & Drinks 2002 in Greece, Prowein 2002 in Germany and Detrop 2003 in Greece. The 2001 vintage received a Silver medal at the 2003 International Wine Competition in Thessalonica. |
